Where to begin as a Witchling?

10/04/2023

A Witchling is a relatively new term; it refers to anyone who has just begun to walk the path, anyone who is still learning the basics. When a witchling starts their journey, a plethora of information is often conflicting, available from books, websites, social media, blogs, vlogs, podcasts and in person. There is so much information out there it's daunting and highly confusing. Even more so, if you don't know any other witches, who you can ask for help and advice. The best advice I got when I was a witchling was to research the basics and learn them first, keep an open mind, question everything, and write down anything that resonates with you, any piece of information that jumps out at you or you feel connected to. While researching the basics, stick to general information sources and note anything you need to research later, things you haven't heard about, topics that interest you, or terms you don't know.

Always remember that there is no right or wrong way to practice witchcraft, follow your intuition and always keep an open mind. Your practice should be a reflection of you, so if you read a spell or piece of information and you like the concept but need to change things around a little bit to better suit you then do it. The more personalised your practice is the stronger it will be.

Write down your morals, ethics, principles, and what you believe; remember that your craft is fluid and constantly evolving, so any path you walk, and any beliefs you have at the beginning are likely to change; embrace that.

For witchlings that have just started on their path or anyone feeling unsure where to go next, this list may help you get started, study, and know the path you want to walk.
